B1 English Course and Exam for them who are planning to renew or apply newly for the FTL PCO Licence. The private hire regulations in many of the city council in UK including Transport for London (TFL) have recently changed and included a new English language Test requirement to apply for PCO (Public Carriage Office) Private Hire Driver Licence.
The new requirement means from the 1st October 2016 you will have to provide to Transport for London (TfL) with evidence to prove that you can communicate in English with your customer. This English Language Test will cover your Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening skills.
This will have to be done by providing an English language certificate with B1 level of English on the CEFR (Common European Framework). This is an internationally recognised qualification.
It is essential for public safety that all PCO (Public Carriage Office) licensed drivers can communicate in English at an appropriate level. Communicating with passengers to discuss a route, providing good customer service, or fare, as well as reading, understanding and being able to respond to important regulatory, safety and travel information.

The English Language Test is for All new and renewal drivers who are not from a majority English speaking country.
Transport for London (TfL) has also set a transition time, which means new and renewal applicants will get their private hire licence but will have until the end of March 2017 to provide sufficient certification or proof of their ability to communicate in English.
Applicants from the 1st of April 2017 will need to have the evidence ready at the time of applying to become a Private Hire Driver in London.

There is no formal examination is required, but at the end of the B1 English Course you need to submit a portfolio via email or by post to our head office. You will also be required to provide supporting evidence and an observation with written on the micro teach delivery aspect of the course.
